HOW TO DEVELOP A GROWTH MINDSET
SIMONE DOULAVERAS
Having a growth mindset is an important part of finding your potential. It's called a ‘growth’ mindset because it's about knowing you have the ability to improve your talents and abilities if you put in the work.
People with this mindset tend to be more open-minded and more successful than those who have a fixed mindset. They have the ability to read different situations and approach challenges with enthusiasm.
Benefits of a growth mindset
Cultivating this type of mindset can have huge positive benefits on your mental and emotional wellbeing. This affects your ability to succeed in every aspect of your life.
There are a lot of parallels that can be drawn between a person with high self-esteem and a growth mindset. The practise of cultivating a growth mindset has a similar positive effect on your self-esteem and your overall success.
If you understand that everything you do can be improved with hard work, your self-worth will grow. The value you place on your achievements will grow, too, and you will get the know-how for how to achieve more in the future.
How to get a growth mindset (weekly practise)
- At the end of each week, reflect on what you've learnt, including any failures. What you learn from these failures will always stick better than wins.
- Cultivate grit. Be determined, be hungry.
- Acknowledge and embrace your imperfections.
- Remove the fear of failure and making mistakes. This is how we learn and grow.
- Pay attention to your inner monologue. Cut out unnecessary noise and any negative self chat and replace ‘never’ with ‘yet’.
With a growth mindset, you are in a position to manifest exactly what you want in life, develop new skills and set yourself up for success long-term.
